For lawyers & attorneys
Privilege is only as strong as
the channel it travels on.
Attorney-client confidentiality assumes no one else can read the conversation. On most “secure” apps, the provider still can — and can be compelled to. Cipher removes that party from the room entirely.
Privilege the platform can't break
Attorney-client privilege protects the content of a communication — but only if a third party can't read it. With most apps, the provider holds your messages in a form it can produce under subpoena. Cipher is zero-access: we are structurally incapable of reading client communications, so there is no privileged content for us to be compelled to hand over.
Metadata is discoverable too
Who a client called, when, and how often can itself be sensitive — and it's exactly the kind of record that surfaces in discovery or a subpoena even when message content is encrypted. Cipher minimizes the metadata it stores, so the pattern of your representation isn't sitting in a database.
No phone number tying a client to you
Identity is a seed phrase, not a phone number — so there's no telecom record linking a client's number to your firm, and nothing for a SIM-swap or carrier request to expose. Useful for sensitive matters, whistleblowers, or clients who simply value discretion.
Secure matter rooms for the whole team
Co-counsel, paralegals, and experts can work in a private group, or one-to-one — with the same zero-access guarantee at every level. Group infrastructure that costs more to run is its own tier, so you only pay for what the matter needs.
The honest limits
We'll tell you exactly where the protection ends.
Cipher protects the communication channel and removes us as a point of failure. It is not legal advice, and it can't protect a device that's already seized and unlocked, or a client who is tricked into sharing something. Those are device-security and human-factor issues no app solves. We'd rather a firm understand that precisely than oversell it.
- Zero-access on message content — no readable store for us to be compelled to produce.
- Encrypted to our gateway only on calls to regular phone numbers — the phone network can't do end-to-end.
- Independent cryptographic audit is the gate before launch, and we'll publish the findings.
Keep privileged conversations privileged.
